This beautiful wheel window, with angels around an Agnus Dei (Lamb of God), is probably by the Lancaster stained glass company of Shrigley & Hunt. It is located high on the west wall of the church and dates from the period 1870 to 1890.

This window, depicting St Mary, is one of four on the west wall of the church. The predominant blues are traditionally associated with Christ's mother. It probably dates from around 1973 when the church was substantially extended. The maker is not known to me.

St John the Baptist (Old Church), Pilling A small church of 1717. In 1813 the walls were raised to incorporate a north gallery. The church is of special interest because the interior has been changed very little since that time, and it demonstrates Georgian liturgical arrangements very well. It is now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

The C15 stained glass of this little Lakeland church was comprehensively broken some time after the Reformation. However, in 1911 a large quantity of fragments were found behind an internal wall of the building. These were re-assembled in the east window. The panel shown here depicts ordination.

Priory of St Mary & St Michael, Cartmel Cartmel Priory has been described as Lancashire's grandest medieval church. Founded in 1189 it was spared destruction after the Reformation because it was also the parish church. It is one of only three churches in England with a diagonally placed square tower. This photograph is computer enhanced.

In his introduction to "The Buildings of England: North Lancashire", Nikolaus Pevsner says, "One would have to search far and search long in England to find village churches to vie with Finsthwaite...Torver..., and Dolphinholme...". The church dates from 1897-99, and was built by the Lancaster architects, Austin & Paley.
